Friends of Elster Creek
Activities
Friends of Elster Creek hold a range of activities at Elster Creek and Elwood Canal, notice of these is given on this website, Friends of Elster Creek on Facebook and to Earthcare members via email:
Creek Clean Up
We meet occasionally to remove litter from Elster Creek starting at the Glenhuntly Road bridge and going towards Elsternwick Golf Course. Everyone needs to bring their own gloves and collection bags.
Bird Surveys
Gio Fitzpatrick leads occasional 2-3 hour Bird Surveys starting from the footbridge at the mouth of Elwood Canal and going up to Elsternwick Park and the golf course. There are drinking taps/toilets en route and you can join and leave at any stage. It is a great way to learn about our local birds. No prior knowledge needed but bring some binoculars if you have some.
Revegetation
There are planting activities each winter as part of Earthcare St Kilda’s Revegetation programme.
Waterwatch
The Waterwatch program was initiated in 1993 to enable the community to become involved in the monitoring and management of waterways in their catchment. Waterwatch aims to raise knowledge in the community about water issues and to encourage water quality monitoring groups to undertake constructive action. The Elster Creek Waterwatch team meets monthly to conduct water quality testing and the results are available here.
Talks
We occasionally host talks of interest about flora and fauna.
Friends of Elster Creek also has its own Facebook page so please take a look and ‘Like’ us to keep in touch with what’s happening at Elster Creek or share your Elster Creek experiences.
