Why should it be local?
- The original pier resdesign did not include a viewing platform. Earthcare advocated for a seperate viewing platform to keep penguins safe.
- Earthcare option will cost the government half the price compared to PINP model
- ⁠Earthcare volunteer penguin guides are experts on the St Kilda penguins
- Earthcare will be partnering with Parks Vic who are experts in managing ticketing
- The Earthcare model is in line with feedback from our community survey
- Endorsed by local organisations such as St Kilda Sea Baths, Royal Melbourne Yacth Squadron and Luna Park
- Over 35 years of St Kilda penguins guiding and protection experience

The St Kilda penguins are NOT a tourist destination. They are a treasured part of the St Kilda community and have been for over 35 years.

Earthcare St Kilda aims to continue protecting this special penguin colony through conservation research, community outreach and broader education.

We have worked hard to ensure our penguin guiding model is in line with the community feedback from our survey and prioritises penguin safety.

Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos has endorsed a proposal for Phillip Island Nature Parks to manage St Kilda’s beloved penguin viewing, doubling the cost for visitors compared to the locally-run alternative.

We want this decision overturned and for Earthcare to be involved - as the community have requested.
